NatMed Cosmeceuticals Sdn Bhd has taken an alternative step in promoting natural cosmetics by reducing the use of chemical ingredients in its cosmetics. Natmed had innovated a tapioca based cream to replace the use of carbopol. Carbopol polymers is use in personal care industry for their ability to thicken,suspend and stabilize aqueous formulations. It is used widely to make gels, creams,lotions and suntan products. Unfortunately, Carbopol polymers also had one major problem - they were difficult to disperse. Tapioca starch had similar properties to carbopol. Therefore NatMed decided to switch the use of carbopol to tapioca starch.

Cassia alata L. is locally known as the gelenggang or candle tree or ringworm Cassia is a pantropical shrub.It grows aggressively in areas with high water table and sunlight. The extract of the plant has been reported to possess some medicinal value, for example, the leaves have been reported to have a laxative effect and are also used against ringworm, scabies, ulcers and other skin diseases.
In Malaysia, especially among the traditional medicine practitioners the Cassia alata leaf extract is use to treat ringworm infection. The other uses of C. alata are as an antihelminthic, antibacterial, laxative, diuretic, for treatment of snakebites and uterine disorders
